My Experience Selling a Car to Peddle


To get started, I went to Peddle, entered my car’s VIN, and answered 10 to 15 easy questions about the ownership and condition of my car. They asked for the year, make, model, and location of my car. Then they asked whether or not my car is paid off and what type of title it has. Lastly, they asked about the condition of my car’s interior, body, wheels, tires, mirrors, and glass. In one of the questions, Peddle asked if my Buick had its original catalytic converter. After I chose ‘no,’ they alerted me that my offer may change at pickup since I didn’t have one. Overall, I chose the best answer that described the condition of my vehicle, and it was very easy. It only took about a minute or so to answer all those questions. As soon as I answered the last question, Peddle immediately told me how much they would pay for my car—they offered $515 for my 2004 Buick LeSabre.

Decision Time and Offer Changes

I couldn’t negotiate the offer they gave me. I only could choose to accept it or decline it. So, I received the offer about 30 days before I was ready to sell the car just to get an idea of how much Peddle would pay for it. Peddle will honor the amount they offer once you accept the offer, but the price they are willing to pay for your car could go up or down if you do not accept the offer right away. Once I was ready to sell my car, my offer actually increased to $535.

Finalizing the Sale and Pickup Process

After accepting the offer, the clock started and I had 7 days to submit pictures of my car before the offer expired. To my surprise, they didn’t ask for pictures of my car. Instead, they requested a picture of my title along with other details like title specifics and pickup location. This information was then forwarded to a pickup partner who contacted me the next day to schedule the pickup. These pickup partners are local towing companies or salvage yards that Peddle uses to collect vehicles. The earliest time they had a driver available to pick up my car was the next day between 12:00 and 3:00, so that is the time that I went with.

Pickup Day and Payment Adjustment

On the day of pickup, the driver called me 30 minutes before he arrived and confirmed my pickup address. When the driver arrived, he had a few questions for me. He asked if the car still ran, how many keys I had, and if the original catalytic converter was still in place. My car still ran, I had two sets of keys, and I informed him that the original catalytic converter was not in place. He then opened the hood and the trunk and also looked underneath the car to confirm everything I told him was true. Then he asked for my title. Since my car did not have a catalytic converter, Peddle could no longer honor their initial offer. The driver called the pickup partner to see what they were able to offer me. After spending about a minute on the phone, he said they could offer me $385, and I accepted it. Since my offer changed, he said the pickup partner could mail me a check or I could pick it up from their office, which was less than 10 minutes from my house. I told him I’d pick up the check. The driver was professional, down-to-earth, and knowledgeable about the entire process. He then spent about 10 minutes connecting the car to the bracket system on the tow truck before driving off. The whole process took about 20 minutes. About an hour after my car was picked up, the pickup partner called to confirm my name and address for the updated check and told me the check was ready for pickup. I was busy for the rest of the day, so I ended up picking up the check the next day.

Moving on to the pros and cons of selling a car with Peddle, starting with the pros: First, it’s an extremely fast process. It’s hard to find other methods to help you sell your car any faster. Fourth, the whole process is free. And fifth, Peddle has amazing customer service. They are really easy to reach by phone.

Now on to the considerations: First, Peddle will buy any car, but their sweet spot is old cars and junk cars. Therefore, if you are selling a relatively new car or a collectible car, you will likely get an extremely low offer that won’t be worth accepting. In summary, I’d recommend using Peddle if you need to sell your car within 1 to 2 days, you get lowball offers from dealers or other individuals, your car doesn’t run and you want it picked up at no additional cost, or you have a junk car that is hard to sell. Examples of junk cars that are hard to sell are cars with water or flood damage, cars that have been in an accident, cars that are missing significant engine or body parts, or a car that is missing a title. Peddle is one of the best places to sell a car that no one else wants to buy.

Peddle did not require much paperwork for me to sell my Buick; they just asked I prepare the title by printing and signing my name in the ‘completed by seller’ section once I’ve scheduled the pickup. Now, if you’ve never sold a car before, don’t worry because Peddle makes it really easy. They texted me instructions showing an image of a title and also texted me a link on how to prepare a title in my state. In total, it took only two days from accepting Peddle’s offer to having my car picked up. I accepted the offer on a Tuesday and by Thursday my car was sold. If you are looking to sell your car for as much money as possible, Peddle is not the best option as they will almost always buy your car for a lower price when compared to selling it privately. However, the main benefit is that Peddle eliminates almost all of the hassles you will encounter when selling your car privately, such as the time-consuming process of creating for-sale listings, meeting prospective buyers for test drives, and even the possibility of having to deal with scammers.
