11 Websites To Download Free 3D Models

Thingiverse

Thingiverse is a free and super easy-to-use design website that features hundreds of thousands of user-created models. While the site has been around for years, it’s now owned by MakerBot – one of the largest manufacturers in consumer-based desktop printers – making them an even more extensive resource for getting printable files!

On top of having such an extensive library of over 400,000 free 3d models, Thingiverse offers users compatibility with over 350 file formats across 22 different categories, including .stl, .obj, .dxf/.dwg, and more.

How to Use Thingiverse

To download any model, you have to click “Print It” under each uploader’s profile picture and then select how much filament you want to use. You can then select from a few different resolution settings depending on how detailed you’d like your final print-out to be.

This is especially helpful for those making small figures and parts! If the file isn’t already available in STL (the most common open-source model format), you’ll need to download an extension such as MeshLab, Netfabb, or Solidworks.

Thingiverse Pricing

The basic version is free, but if you want to print your model in high quality or get your designs printed professionally by the site’s partners – there is a paid option.

Yeggi

Yeggi is a search engine that indexes all the assets on various platforms. The platform’s index of over 12 million files includes CAD models and STLs, blueprints, and other types of technical drawings.

It works by crawling more than 400 websites where users can upload their designs to share with others or use them in work projects. Some of these sites specialize for specific purposes (e.g., Kickstarter), while others support file sharing across many applications, including CAD software like Solidworks, Maya, etc.

Yeggi is the best solution for anyone looking to find or share CAD designs on the web. It’s completely free with no registration is required!

You can search by keywords, categories (e.g., architecture), file type (DWG/DXF), and more than 500 other parameters, to quickly get what you want in just a few minutes.

Yeggi also has its community where users can discuss models they’ve found or shared with others while sharing their files too.

Hum3D

Hum3D is a new marketplace that lets people sell their models and search for free or paid ones. Find almost anything there: from everyday things like fruits & veggies to more specific categories such as animals, humans, insects, vehicles.

If there is something you are looking for that is not on Hum3D yet, you can also suggest it using the “Submit” button in the bottom right corner. You can get something 100% unique made by professional artists who will create custom poses and textures for you for just $29.

GrabCAD

GrabCAD is an online community mainly for CAD models. Browse through the catalog of different categories and search according to your needs or preferences. Most of what you find here are free models, but there’s also a paid service available if needed.

The platform allows users to upload their creations. They can then share with other members interested in similar things or admire them from close by browsing through various sections, including Cars, Planes & Trains, Figures & Characters.

It’s all completely free, so it doesn’t cost anything at all to sign-up and start getting creative! GrabCAD is an excellent place to start looking around when you need CAD models or specific file types from certain categories and sub-categories which are not easily accessible elsewhere.

Cults 3D

Cults 3D is CAD software that allows you to create and edit your models in real-time. It has useful functions such as working with STL file format, seeing a list of materials used for each object, or even speeding up the process by creating things from scratch using different shapes.

Cults also provide its users with an opportunity to share their creations online, where other members can download them. There are both free and paid versions of this application available out there.

The basic software also gives users access to all tools, making working on three-dimensional projects more accessible than ever before. The app is well designed so that you won’t have any issues navigating through menu items – everything looks great and works fast.

They are accommodating when it comes to making your model look realistic by adding high-quality decorations that were created using professional tools such as Maya, Rhino, or Blender. Users can also find over 100,000 different paid and free assets on the Asset Store, which can be beneficial while creating your new project.

CG Trader

CG Trader is a site where you can trade your digital art for others. It was created so that artists could have access to even more resources than they already do, with the idea of peer-to-peer sharing in mind.

When an artist uploads their work, it is placed into one or several categories depending on what type of file it is (for example, textures).

Everyone gets 48 hours from when they sign up until they must make at least one contribution back to the community before making trades. However, users are allowed unlimited transactions after that period as long as someone else has traded with them first within those two days.

There are also no fees associated with trading, which makes it a reasonably good place to get extra resources for your projects.

3D Warehouse

You can find anything in the 3D Warehouse by Sketchup, ranging from the 3d models of a bench to a kite. There are many categories available in which you can search for models by type or purpose.

You will also see free content and paid content on the website itself, with prices varying depending on what they would like to purchase. In addition, they have an advanced search option where you can refine your results based upon specific criteria such as usage rights each model has been tagged with, whether it’s commercial or non-commercial use.

Models purchased here all come preloaded into SketchUp, so artists don’t need any prior experience using CAD software before trying out their creations within Google’s interface program.

3D Warehouse Pricing

Mostly everything within this category is paid content, apart from models in the Lite category. The Lite category means these assets have limited features compared to their full-version counterparts. However, they are still good enough for most primary use cases.

Note that some Lite objects may require subscription fees by their respective creators, so it’s best to double-check before downloading models from 3D Warehouse.
