How Does Drop Work?

Launched in 2017 and Based in Toronto, Drop is a shopping app that lets you earn gift cards (from Amazon, Target, etc.) on your regular purchases.

Drop allows you to;

  • Download the Drop app and link your card to Drop to unlock Drop Premium and earn even more points.
  • Shop at brands you love through the app and earn more points
  • Redeem them in the app for instant rewards like gift cards to Amazon, Uber, Starbucks, and more.

How Much Cashback You Can Get With Drop?

Each merchant sets the number of Drop points you can earn with each transaction.

The amount of points you can earn with each purchase varies from retailer to retailer and the information will be available for you in your app.

For example, you can earn:

StoreReward
Walmart2 points for each $1 spent
Trader Joe’s12 points for each $1 spent

1,000 Drop points = $1

Note that Drop sets an earning cap at 5,000 points per week, meaning anything you earn beyond that won’t count. This means you can earn a maximum of $20 per month just by doing what you’ve already been doing.

Also remember, that your points won’t immediately show up in your account, because Drop works with your bank to verify your purchases. This process usually takes 2-3 days, so don’t panic if you don’t see your Points updated for a few days.

While most Drop users typically earn about 1% to 2% cash-backs on their regular purchases, you could be getting $10 – $20 back into your account for each $100 you spend.

When you see a one-time offer on Drop, make sure you click the link to activate it. If you complete purchases outside of the app, you won’t be eligible for points.

Who is Drop Best for?

Drop is best for individuals who want to earn gift cards on their regular purchases. It’s also suitable for users who want to save while shopping.

As a shopping app, Drop offers bonuses and special promotions for spending a certain amount or for shopping at a certain retailer.

Drop also rewards you when you invite your friend to the app. If someone joins Drop with your referral link, you’ll both get 5,000 points as a reward once they earn at least 1,000 points.

Drop Review Verdict: is Drop Worth it?

While Drop isn’t a perfect rewards app, it allows you to earn rewards (up to $20 a month) for purchases you already plan to make. Also, you can stack your earnings by maximizing rewards from credit cards and uploading your receipts to rewards apps that pay you to do that.

Drop isn’t as intuitive as other cash-back apps and portals. But if you are looking to earn extra money shopping, the app could be worth it.

How to Sign Up With Drop?

Getting started with Drop is a pretty straightforward process.

Step 1 – Download Drop

Logically, the first step to getting started with Drop is to download an app on your iPhone or Android smartphones. You can also visit the Drop website and enter your phone number for Drop to send a download link to your phone.

Drop also offers a Chrome extension that lets you earn Drop points when you shop online.

Once you’ve downloaded the app, you need to create your Drop account by entering basic information.

Finally, you’ll be prompted to link your debit or credit card so that you can seamlessly earn cash-backs on your purchases.

Step 3 – Select your favorite stores

After you’ve created your account and connected your card, you can pick 5 of your favorite brands where you can collect Drop points. Drop offers popular retailers like Walmart, Target, Starbucks, Trader Joe’s, Uber and other major ones.

Choose your favorite stores wisely as you cannot edit your list later on. I recommend picking brands or stores that you shop frequently with.

Step 4 – Choose bonus offers (Optional)

While this step is optional, choosing bonus offers can increase your points. Basically, you’ll be getting extra points for completing tasks like linking a second card, inviting your friend to the app, or completing a certain number of purchases.

Step 5 – Start earning Drop points

Just by registering, linking your card, and selecting your favorite brands, you’ve already received some initial points. All you have to do is shop at your selected retailers with your linked card to start earning Drop points.

Remember: don’t just go and increase your spending to collect more points. Just use your Drop-linked card on your regular purchases.
