How to Become a Taskrabbit Tasker

If you want to work with TaskRabbit and become a Tasker there are seven things that you will need, they are:

  1. New Taskers must be at least 18 years old.
  2. You must have a valid credit card.
  3. A smartphone is a must to run the TaskRabbit app.

  5. You must live in an active TaskRabbit city.
  6. You must have a checking account with a bank.
  7. A one time registration fee of $25 is required.

If you can meet these seven criteria there are four steps to join TaskRabbit, they are:

  • Register for an account on the TaskRabbit website. Fill out the personal information and a direct deposit to get paid. This step is easier if you have all your financial information on hand before you get started.

  • Download the TaskRabbit app to get access to the jobs.
  • Scroll through the jobs, find one you like, apply, perform the task and get paid.

Every Tasker profile requires a recent profile so that customers know who they are waiting for before you arrive. There is also a useful guide on the TaskRabbit website to help you be a successful Tasker.

How Does Taskrabbit Work?

Once you’ve followed the steps outlined above you’ve joined TaskRabbit, you’re now a Tasker and it’s time to get to work. You can locate jobs in your local area, set times when you are available for work and edit your profile for customers. All of this can be achieved directly with the TaskRabbit app which you can download from the Google Play or Apple App Store.

The first time you start up the TaskRabbit app you will want to visit the “Home” tab. This is where you will find the tasks set for today, set your preferences and keep a track of your earnings. Another great tab is “Tasks” this is where you can look at past and current tasks.

The “Availability” tab is useful because this is where you will set your available working times. If you want a day off every Friday or you have an appointment on a certain day this is where you will set that up.

Other Tabs

The previous tabs are all useful but there are two other tabs that are vitally important, they are: the “Profile” and “My Business” tabs:

The Profile

The “Profile” tab is where you will promote your skills to potential customers that may want to hire you. You can set up your work area map that shows visitors the areas that you can reach and where you want to work.

Here you can add any vehicles to your profile which is handy if you’re going to be moving or delivering items. All information can be edited in real time if your circumstances change and this includes closing statements for your clients.

My Business

The “My Business” Tab is where you will monitor your earnings and a large number of other metrics that will help you to improve your efficiency and income level. This is also where you can add any useful skills that you think a potential customer may be interested in.

Don’t be modest here, you may think that a certain skill is not a big deal, but many people may not possess it and they will be willing to pay for your help. If you add new skills you can always edit the list in this tab to keep customers up to date.

Once you’ve set up your TaskRabbit profile and fine tuned it to attract customers it’s easy to use on the days you want to work. A Tasker will be notified about active Tasks in their area and then they can choose the ones they want to do. Some of the most popular jobs features on TaskRabbit, include: cleaning, delivery jobs, moving, assembling furniture, personal assistant, handyman work and running errands.

How Much Can You Earn on Taskrabbit?

The average Tasker earns around $35 per hour in the U.S and £24 per hour in the U.K. At the moment we don’t have sufficient data on the emerging Canadian TaskRabbit scene but it’s safe to assume it’s an equivalent hourly rate of pay.

The amount of money that you can earn as a Tasker will depend on a few different factors, including: your experience, efficiency and your TaskRabbit rating. If you get a reputation for completing tasks quickly and efficiently your services will be in high demand because your TaskRabbit rating will reflect this.

Here are some typical tasks and the kind of money that a Tasker could expect to earn to complete them:

  • Carry some furniture up some stairs: $45-$105
  • Fix a minor plumbing problem: $55-$130
  • Assembling furniture: $55-$145
  • Home or Office Delivery: $25-$70

As a gig economy app, TaskRabbit pays workers on a completed task basis and customers pay their Taskers via Stripe. The payment is usually approved around 24 hours after the task was completed and then it takes 3-5 working days for the money to appear in your bank account.

Taskrabbit Pros & Cons

Pros

  • The Hours are Flexible: One of the most attractive aspects of TaskRabbit for many people is that you can set your own working schedule. This is very useful if you want to work as a Tasker as a side gig around a full time job. You can work when you need the extra cash and rest when you like making this a very flexible option.
  • The Rate of Pay: TaskRabbit gives Taskers the option to make a good income and some Taskers can make up to $2,000 per week! If you can manage your own time well and you’re willing to work you can make money with TaskRabbit.
  • A Ready Supply of Clients: Finding your own clients can be hassle, it’s important to have good contacts and it’s hard to build a client base. Most people don’t have enough money for advertising and marketing that you need to get a new business up and running. However, a Tasker will have access to ready supply of clients in a single location. So, it’s easier to get up and running and earning money quickly.
  • Long-Term Working Potential: Although TaskRabbit is a great place to get gigs this doesn’t mean that you have to do a different job every day. While there are some Taskrabbit complaints, many clients will be happy to hire Taskers on a long-term basis if they are reliable and repeat work is common.
  • Freelancing Perks: Although you miss out on company related benefits when you’re a freelance Tasker there are some perks. In fact, TaskRabbit has its own perks reward scheme with some nice bonuses for dedicated Taskers.

Cons

  • The TaskRabbit Service Fee: TaskRabbit makes its money by charging a 15% service fee from each Tasker which is a finder’s fee for sourcing the job. So, if you earned $100 with a client, TaskRabbit would take a $15 cut. This is normal in any type of gig economy platform but some people don’t like paying fees and would prefer to organize their own work.
  • Low Starting Pay: As we showed earlier it is possible to make a good income with TaskRabbit but it takes time to build a reputation. Most new Taskers have to set low rates to entice clients and build up their income later when they are more established. TaskRabbit will not allow a Tasker to work for minimum wage, but it may be tough when you’re getting started on the platform.
  • An Inconsistent Income: There is no getting around the fact that self employed and gig economy workers have an inconsistent income. You may never know when a job will become available, some periods will be busy and the next week you may have no work at all. This will change when you get regular clients and a better TaskRabbit rating but that takes time. When you’re busier it’s a good idea to  set aside some of your TaskRabbit income for a rainy day.

Is TaskRabbit Worth Working For?

TaskRabbit is a legit company with many working opportunities in the U.S., U.K. and Canada. This is a flexible way to earn money and if you build a reputation it is possible to generate a significant income. TaskRabbit is definitely worth checking out if you’re interested in a lucrative side gig that you can develop into a full-time income.

However, to make your TaskRabbit experience successful you will need good organizational skills and the drive to succeed.
