What is Bellhop Moving?

Bellhop is one of a growing number of smartphone orientated apps with a focus on helping people to move their home or even a business. This is an interesting way to earn money for people with flexible schedules or college students that have some free time.

The business of moving is particularly brisk during the warmer summer months and it gets slower as the school year starts. So, helping people to move really is a great fit for students at a loose end or others looking for a side hustle.

This type of work exceeds the minimum wage, but not by a great amount. Additionally, the job can be physically demanding. Helping people to move could be lucrative if you’re busy and the hours are flexible making this a useful side hustle.

Is Bellhop Moving Safe & Legit?

Bellhop has been in business long enough to formulate an opinion on their operations. Overall, it has to be said that Bellhop has a good reputation with most people online. The company has a 4.5 out of 5 trustpilot rating and they seem to pay on time.

The app is free to download and it’s easy to get started. So it’s worth giving Bellhop a try if you want to earn some extra cash.

How Does Bellhop Moving Work?

Bellhop is simple to use if you follow these three steps:

1. Establish Your Schedule

Use the Bellhop app to update your availability at any time when you’re ready to work. Bellhop will then match you with any new or currently available jobs located in your area.

2. Get to the Job

Travel to the job location and use the app to meet up with the rest of your moving team. Work efficiently and follow safety guidelines to complete the move.

3. Level Up on the App

Once you’ve completed a job the client gets to leave a review that can increase your Bellhop ranking and get paid.

How Much do Bellhops Movers Make?

There are two positions for Bellhops, they are: “Captain” and “Wingman”.

As the name suggests a Captain is the primary point of contact and the Wingman is the assistant role.

Bellhops can earn $13-$15 per hour and it is possible to earn tips for a good job. Another way to earn money is referral fees by recommending Bellhop to friends and family that become Bellhops or future clients for the platform.

All Bellhop payments are made within 5-7 days after the move has been completed successfully. The payments are via direct deposit to your bank account of choice.

Some Bellhops can work as paid interns in a “Campus Director” role which is a local campus-based recruiter. The Campus Director’s job is to recruit a student workforce to handle the extra demand for moving that occurs during the summer months.

How to Get The Job with Bellhop Moving?

It’s easy to join Bellhop. You can apply online with a basic job application process followed by a video interview. However, there are certain requirements that you must meet before you can start work.

Every Bellhop must:

  • Be able to lift 100 lbs+
  • Pass a background check
  • Be at 18 least years old
  • Be trained, licensed and insured to get regular work on the platform.

If you meet the requirements you work as an independent contractor. You set your own hours and you simply check the app when you’re ready to work.

Other things that you will need are:

  • A smartphone to check the Bellhop app,
  • Some transport
  • A checking account to get paid.

Bellhop works in many different cities and it’s a great option for students that want to earn some extra money.

What Happens if You Can Not Work on Scheduled Day?

Bellhops does have a No Show Policy. Since the company relies on its workers to complete assigned jobs, there are consequences if you fail to show up on a scheduled day. If you cancel working a move without a replacement and within 24 of the appointment, it is classed as a no show. This will immediately result in Bellhops terminating your contract.

You can appeal this termination. But, you will need to provide proof to support your reinstation. The company claims that it will hear your side of the story. However, if you don’t have a solid history with the company, you may struggle.

So, if you unable to work, you need to provide Bellhops with as much notice as possible.

How Far Away You will Have to Work from Your Home?

Bellhops claim that the average local move is less than 15 miles. However, there are complaints on Indeed about workers being sent on far longer journeys. The company aims to keep the drive time to less than an hour, but this is not promised.

However, you will earn $0.30 per mile after the first 15 miles. This is from home to location 1 and location 2 to home. As long as you are on the clock, you’ll receive the mileage allowance.

How Does Bellhop Payments Work?

As I mentioned above, all payments are made to your checking account within 5-7 days. Sadly, Bellhop uses a direct deposit payment process that is not compatible with processors such as Cash App, Venmo and Chime.

But, there is no upper limit on how much you can earn with Bellhop and this includes any bonuses or tips from happy clients.

Sites like Bellhop Moving

Bellhop vs. HireAHelper

HireAHelper is a decent alternative to Bellhop. It’s free to join and they charge a 29% fee on any order booked through their platform. If the company receives a direct order the fee drops to 15%. There is no monthly contract or fees to worry about.

It’s easy to set up a free HireAHelper account and upload details about your location, crew, company logo and other information. Once you’re approved to use the HireAHelper platform, your business is listed and put on a huge user base.

If you have a tricky client, the HireAHelper customer service support staff are available 7 days a week to solve the problem. HireAHelper can help with lost goods, accidents and anything else that could happen during a move.

Once the job is complete, you will receive payment for the work that you were booked for originally. HireAHelper has you covered for cancellations, credit card fees, chargebacks and any extra hours that you had to work.

Bellhop vs. Unpakt

Unpakt is an interesting online marketplace where people can compare the guaranteed prices for the moving and storage companies that are operating in their area. Customers can book these services on the platform at any time which makes this a great resource for up and coming moving companies.

This is a great way to get a smaller scale moving or courier business running. But the pay would be less reliable than Bellhop. Obviously, because you’re running your own business you can charge what you like but you need to stay competitive.

Bellhop vs. Lugg

Lugg is a platform that works like having a friend that you can call to help you move something with a truck. If you’re interested in moving smaller items on demand, you can make money with Lugg. The variety of moving can vary from a single box up to a couch bought at IKEA. So it makes sense to get some help if you want to take this seriously. Virtually every Lugg moving job will fit easily in the back of a truck or even a pickup.

Lugg has two main roles, they are: “Driver” and “Helper”.

  • A Driver will need a van, truck, pickup or a trailer to qualify for this role and they can earn $30+ per hour.
  • A Helper doesn’t need a vehicle. They are there to help with moving and they earn $15 per hour.

Tipping is not guaranteed but it is fairly common when working for Lugg and a job is completed to the customers satisfaction.

To work with Lugg, register on the website and set your location and indicate that you’re available for work. When a job appears in your area, Lugg will alert you. Lugg claims that some drivers are earning almost $2,500 per week on the platform.
